Connecting to the Internet
We suggest you print out this section and work from the printout.

First, double click on My Computer which you should find on your desktop. Double click on Dial-up Networking and then Make New Collection.

Type the name you want to call your new connection like "VisionFriendly" or "Internet", etc. and make sure your current modem is selected as in the following screen.

Select Next

Enter the phone to call. In Elburn enter 365-3160, in the Tri-cities enter 262-2259. For anywhere else click here

Select Next and then Finish.

But your not done yet.

Select, but don't double click your newly created connection Icon as it appears in the Dial-up Networking window. Right click on the Icon and select properties. That will pop-up a new window. Select "Server Types" on the tabs at the top.

Make sure the only box that is checked on the screen is TCP/IP.

Select TCP/IP Settings

Make sure the information is exactly as it appears below. (Most likely the only thing you will have to do is select the "Specify name server addresses" button and enter the numbers for the Primary DNS and Secondary DNS.

The Primary DNS number is 198.78.61.8.
The Secondary DNS number is 198.78.61.9.

Select "OK" twice.

It is now a good idea to create a Icon on your desk for the new dial up connection. Simply right click on the icon and select "Create Shortcut". Click "Yes" when the dialog box appears and you have completed the Dial-up portion of the process. Close down all open windows.

Setting up Logon

Double click on your newly created Icon on your desktop. Enter your new "User Name" and "Password". Check "Save Password". Everything else should be fine.

Select Connect and in a few moments you will be on the Internet.

Bring up your browser and/or email software and enjoy.

Oh, one more thing needs to be changed - your email settings.

You will need to change the SMTP server settings in your email package to "mail.xlinet.com".

For Outlook users, go to tools, then accounts, select your email account, select properties, then servers. You now are on the right screen. Where it says "Outgoing mail (SMTP) enter "mail.xlinet.com".

For Netscape users, go to edit, preferences, click on the + to expand mail & Newsgroups. Select mail servers. Where it says "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server, enter "mail.xlinet.com".

If you are setting up new email addresses see the help sections covering the email software you are using. Most likely Outlook from Microsoft or Netscape.

If you need any help call us 630-365-1500.
