Setting Up Microsoft Internet Mail

The Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.01 includes the Internet Mail Reader. From Internet Explorer, click on "Go", slide down and click on "Read Mail".

The "Internet Mail Configuration" box is up next. Click "Next."

Enter your real name in the first box, or your name as you want it to appear on e-mail headings. Tab to the next box and enter your e-mail address in the form "Username@domainname.com". Click on "Next".

Fill in the Incoming mail(POP3) server info, "mail.domainname.com". Also fill in "xxxx.xxxx.com" for Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server per your ISP. Click on "Next".

Enter your e-mail account information in this box. Your username goes in the first box, your password in the second box. You must enter your password here, or you will have to type it in every time you check mail. Click on "Next".

Now you must specify the type of connection. Check the box marked "I use a modem to access my email". Under "Use the following Dial-Up Networking" connection, click on the down arrow and double-click on your Internet connection. Click on "Next".

You are now ready to connect to Shell0. Click on "Finish".

Microsoft Internet Mail user interface comes up, with a message from the Microsoft Internet Mail and News Team to welcome you.

To compose mail, click on "New Message". Fill in the address field and subject field, use "Tab" to move around in these fields. After you have composed your message, click on "Send and Receive" to connect up to shell0. This will send your message on it's way and also check your mailbox for new mail.

HELPFUL HINTS: Use descriptive Subject names to help the recipient find your messages from his inbox. When replying to a message, click on "Reply to Author", the recipient and author fields reverse. Delete unnecessary parts of the old message to save disk space on the recipients system, they already have a copy of the message in their files.

Happy Mailing!
